Inspirations: Bonnie Evans

I have always been moved by the impressionistic works of Mary Cassatt. Mary is well known for her paintings and pastels depicting tender moments of intimacy between mothers and their children. Over the past several years, I have endeavored to capture similar intimate moments in my candid photography of parents and/or children, which has served as reference material for much of my pastel work. The pastel drawing, “Nostalgia,” with its dreamlike bokeh background, might take the viewer back to childhood days and conjure up tender memories of engaging in play. Cassatt’s contribution to history lies not only in the art she produced, but also in the role she played in bringing the works of the major Impressionists to the United States.
