Inspirations: Shameen Pawanal
The artwork “The Heritage of the Village Journey” draws direct inspiration from the book “Vahallu” (Slaves) by Martin Wickramasinghe. The story’s portrayal of rural life and the deep emotional connection between Upali and his cow, Handaya, shaped the foundation of this composition. What resonated with me most in this book was the portrayal of affection and loyalty in a rural setting where animals are treated as family. In translating this story into visual form, I focused on representing both the quiet, enduring companionship and the cultural heritage embedded in village life.
