SmarterMarx Magazine welcomes original writing, artwork, and educational resources from artists, educators, and researchers worldwide. This policy outlines what we accept, how we review submissions, and the rights you retain and grant by contributing.
1. What We Accept
We publish a range of material related to art, perception, and pedagogy:
- Articles & Essays — 1,000–2,500 + words on art business, pedagogy, materials & methods, perceptual science, or artist profiles.
- Artwork Features — single works, series, or works-in-progress (75–150 words description).
- Tutorials / Step-by-Steps — process write-ups, demonstrations, experiments.
- Reviews — exhibitions, books, tools, or materials (disclose any financial or personal relationships).
- Letters & Short Takes — opinions, questions, debate prompts (300–800 words).
- Languages: Any. All accepted work may be translated for publication.
2. Artwork Media Specifications
- File type: JPEG only, ≤ 1 MB per image.
- File names:
name_title_size_medium. - Captions: title, year, medium, dimensions, courtesy/credit line, and any relevant context.
3. Response & Editorial Process

| Publishing | Accepted work appears on our website; select pieces may appear in PDF/print editions, newsletters, or social media. |
4. Rights & License
You own your work.
By submitting, you grant SmarterMarx Magazine a non-exclusive, worldwide, perpetual, royalty-free, sublicensable license to:
- Use, reproduce, publish, distribute, display, and store your submission;
- Translate, adapt, edit for house style or formatting, and create promotional excerpts;
- Publish in any media now known or later developed, including web, newsletters, podcasts, social media, and PDF/print anthologies.
This license allows us to feature and archive your work while you retain full copyright and may republish it elsewhere.
We may make formatting or typographic edits without additional approval; substantive changes will be discussed when possible.
5. Representations & Warranties (Binding Terms)
By submitting, you represent and warrant that:
- Originality & Rights: You created the work or have the authority to submit it and it does not infringe any third-party rights.
- Permissions: You have obtained written consent for any third-party materials (quotes, images, data) and can provide it on request.
- AI Disclosure: If AI tools were used in any stage (text, image, audio, translation), you disclose which tools and the extent of use. You remain responsible for originality and rights.
- No Restricted Content: Your submission contains no unlawful, libelous, defamatory, harassing, hateful, or otherwise prohibited material, and no personal data of others without consent.
- License Grant: You grant Smartermarx the non-exclusive license described above, including rights to adapt and promote.
- Moral Rights: You will be credited as provided. You waive only those moral rights necessary for editing, formatting, and translation.
- Indemnity: You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Smartermarx Magazine, its editors, and affiliates from claims arising from breach of these representations.
- Minors: If you are under 18 (or under the age of majority in your jurisdiction), a verifiable parent/guardian consent form must accompany your submission.
6. Privacy Notice
- We collect your name, contact information, and submission materials for editorial and communication purposes.
- We do not sell or trade submitter data.
- Information may be shared only with service providers (hosting, email, translation, spam-filtering) under confidentiality agreements.

7. Simultaneous Submissions & Prior Publication
- Simultaneous submissions: Allowed. Notify us if accepted elsewhere.
- Previously published work: Allowed if you hold rights to re-license; disclose prior publication and any exclusivity windows.
8. Prohibited Content & Standards
We do not accept:
- Plagiarism or misappropriated material.
- Undisclosed AI-generated or AI-heavily-assisted content.
- Hate speech, harassment, defamation, incitement, or illegal content.
- Images of identifiable individuals without consent (where required by law).
- Sensitive personal data without explicit permission.
- Non-disclosed paid endorsements or sponsorships.
9. Takedown Requests & Corrections
- Copyright or Privacy Takedowns: Email documentation to smartermarxmagazine@gmail.com.
- Corrections: If a published piece contains factual errors, contact us; we will review and post updates or corrections when warranted.
10. Accessibility & Translation
We strive for accessibility compliance (alt text, captions, transcripts). Non-English submissions are welcome; accepted work may be translated by Smartermarx or translation software/resources.
11. Withdrawal
You may request removal from future publication runs. Archived copies, prior distributions, and print or PDF editions may continue to exist as part of the permanent record.
12. Governing Law
This Submission Policy is governed by the laws of the United States and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Disputes shall be resolved under those laws and jurisdictions.
