This painting was inspired by the long lineage of the Trompe l’oeil artists who came before me (especially Anthony Waichulis’ consistently captivating works). This piece started as a still life with a simple theme: birds in flight. While painting, I realized I was altering my reference a little and contemplating a different narrative. One about freedom, balance, growth and possibility.
