Inspirations: Nimeshika Wilegodage

The inspiration for this work is the Buddhist concept of impermanence and the historical Vanitas tradition in art. I have used the juxtaposition of a child’s hand and an elderly hand, along with the life cycle of a flower, to highlight the continuous transformation in all living things. In this composition, the transition from a bud to a faded bloom serves as a visual metaphor for the world’s constant flux. By referencing the Vanitas style, which uses natural elements to represent the passage of time, I aim to evoke reflection on the inevitability of change. The root systems of young and grown plants act as a concrete link to the idea that reality is shaped by evolution. This artwork captures my personal observations of life’s journey, showing that every component of our world exists in a state of transition.
