The inspiration for this work is the Contemporary Realism movement, particularly the hyper-realistic paintings of Robin Eley. I have utilized the visual of a figure interacting with a transparent, plastic-like barrier to represent the physical and psychological struggle against societal expectations.
In this composition, the thin veil symbolizes the cultural norms and traditions that suppress the spirit. By referencing the way modern realism uses synthetic materials to create a sense of tension, I aim to show the dreamer’s silent protest and her desire to break free from a cage of expectations. The act of pulling at the barrier serves as a visual metaphor for forging one’s own path and seeking true freedom.
