Inspirations: Yesica Marc

My work for the Inspirations exhibition, The Metanoia of the Captive Soul, draws from the Christian concept of metanoia—a transformative change of heart and mind central to the New Testament. The term appears in the Gospel of Mark 1:15 and throughout early Christian teaching, where it signifies repentance not merely as regret, but as a fundamental reorientation of the self. The drawing also reflects Christ’s promise of renewal and guidance through the Holy Spirit, as described in the Gospel of John 14:16–18. In Christian theology, spiritual captivity—whether through sin, despair, or fractured identity—is not the end state. Transformation remains possible through repentance and divine grace.

Inspired by lived experiences of struggle and restoration, this work explores the tension between human brokenness and the possibility of rebirth. The “captive soul” suggests spiritual confinement, while metanoia points toward release. The painting functions as a meditation on repentance as liberation—an inward turning that makes renewal possible.
